What is the average cost for a tarot card reading?

A tarot card reading in San Diego generally runs $40 to $150 for a single sitting, depending on the reader, the setting, and the length of the spread. At our Twiggs Street room in Old Town, tarot is $90. Palm reading is $60 and a full psychic reading is $125.

Why does tarot pricing swing so much around the county?

Three different things get called a tarot reading in San Diego, and they do not cost the same.

The first is a festival table. Somebody sets up at a street fair or a farmers market, pulls three cards for you while a line waits behind you, and charges $20 or $30. That is a real reading. It is also five minutes on a folding chair with a band playing forty feet away.

The second is a phone or app reading, priced by the minute. Those advertise free minutes up front and then the meter starts. A twenty minute call at three dollars a minute lands at sixty dollars and you never sat across from anyone.

The third is a room. A door that closes, a table, a chair, and nobody else in the queue. That is what $90 buys here, and it is why storefront rates sit above festival rates.

What $90 actually buys at our table

A standard tarot deck is 78 cards. Twenty two of those are the Major Arcana, the big life-shape cards. The other 56 are the Minor Arcana, split into four suits that deal with money, feelings, conflict, and work.

You shuffle. You cut the deck yourself, with your own hands, because the question is yours and not ours.

Then Georgia lays the spread out on the same table she has used since the room opened and reads what is on it. You can ask about one thing or three things. Most people come in with one and find out halfway through that it was actually a different one.

We do not tell you your future is settled. Cards show a shape and a set of pressures. What you do on Tuesday is still yours.

Is a $40 reading worse than a $125 one?

Not automatically. Price tracks time, privacy, and overhead. It does not track accuracy, and anyone selling you accuracy by the dollar is selling you something we would not.

What price does buy is room to go slow. At a festival table you get the headline. At a sitting you get the follow-up question, which is usually where the useful part lives.

Booking tarot in Old Town

We are on Twiggs Street, a block off San Diego Avenue and walking distance from Old Town San Diego State Historic Park and the transit center on Taylor. Park in the lots off Taylor rather than circling the Avenue, especially August weekends when the historic park empties out onto the sidewalks around five.

Doors are open 9am to 9pm, every day. Summer evenings after seven are the quietest stretch we have, and the walk over from the trolley takes about six minutes.
