How do I check my palmistry?
Open your dominant hand under steady light and find three deep lines: the heart line under the fingers, the head line crossing the middle, and the life line curving around the thumb pad. Depth, breaks, and changes of direction tell you more than length ever will.

People ask us this at the table on Twiggs Street more than any other palm question. They want to try it themselves first. You can, up to a point.
Light matters more than anyone expects. The room sits a few blocks off Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, and on a June morning the marine layer flattens everything coming through the window, so the fine lines disappear until the sun burns through around eleven. Hold the hand flat, then cup it slightly. A line that vanishes when the palm is flat and comes back when it curves is a surface crease, not a major line.
Which hand do you read?
Dominant hand for the life you are building. Non dominant for what you arrived with.
That is the split Georgia works from. If you are left handed, start on the left. Then compare the two, because the gap between them is usually where the conversation actually starts. A head line that runs straight on one hand and drops on the other says something a single hand cannot.
The three lines you can find in about a minute

The life line is the one nearly everybody gets wrong. It is not a countdown. A short life line is a common reading error that has scared more people in this room than any card in the deck. Width of the arc is the part worth noticing, since a wide sweep and a tight hug against the thumb read very differently.
Mounts are the part self readers skip
Four pads carry most of the weight: the pad under the thumb, the one under the index finger, the one under the little finger, and the low ridge along the outer edge below the pinky. Press each one. Firm, soft, and hollow are three different answers.
Most people looking at their own hand stare at lines for ten minutes and never touch a mount. Lines are easy to photograph. Mounts have to be felt, which is why phone screenshots of palms are close to useless for real work.
Where reading your own palm stops working
You already know your own story, so you will find it. That is the trap. You will read the break in your head line as the year you changed jobs because you already know you changed jobs, and you will miss the second, fainter line running under it.
